Move It or Lose It – Ever Hear That?
Our bodies were made to move. Without movement things change – especially the brain. The latest scientific thinking on movement is that NOT moving changes the brain in an equally detrimental way as moving changes the brain in a positive way.
Neuroplasticity is the new thinking that proves that the brain can reorganize itself around damaged areas – such as lesions. BUT IT REQUIRES MOVEMENT – good, focused, strong, correct movement.
This is a concept of recovery I take particularly personally. Coming off a 3 year series of bad situations, including a traumatic crush injury to my leg, knee surgery, two breaks (foot and ankle) and three sprains, I am more committed than ever to getting back and active in a strong and stable way. My regular program now includes swimming, weights and cardio as well as yoga and pilates – and I LOVE IT! I am amazed at how quickly the body is able to restore function – even after three years of traumaJ
It’s never too late to change and you will be amazed at how quickly the benefits come. Start where you’re at – right now seated or standing, just start. The brain, the body, circulation, mood, sleep – everything benefits.
The fourth module of The MS Path is Movement for Life it has been created with input of many movement therapists, a neuro-physio and assorted exercise pros. Take the desire to do something to activity and create your own workout plan.
P.S. I will be sharing many free videos, seminars, webinars with our web page members over March and into April.
Yours in good health,
